Hazard

Panels and doors providing access to parts of the machine where there is a risk of injury from contact with moving parts were not fixed or interlocked. There was no provision for safe access to parts of the machine for maintenance and clearing of blockages. This does not comply with the essential health and safety requirements of The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008. No declaration of conformity accompanied the machine and the technical file did not contain appropriate documentation on risk assessment of the machine.

Remedy

The manufacturer has been notified of the breaches of The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and the product has been voluntarily withdrawn from the market. The responsible person has been instructed to contact persons supplied with revisions of information. Users of trommel 640s supplied by Sterling Cooper Construction Limited should check their machines to ensure that contact with moving parts of the machine is not possible and take appropriate action to ensure their machine is made safe.
