Hazard

3M have identified an aging effect that may impact the performance of self-retracting lifelines (SRLs) produced from January 2022 to October 2024. In the event of a fall, these devices may not lock up as designed which could expose the worker to serious injury or, potentially, death. Any devices repaired by 3M, or an authorised service centre during this timeframe, may also be affected. Affected sizes are all variants of the 85 ft (~26M), 130 ft (~40M) self-retracting lifelines.

Remedy

Recall of the product from end users. 3M have issued a product stop use and action notification sent to distributors with instructions to forward to all applicable end users. Affected end users are advised to stop using their Sealed-Blok™ device immediately and access the 3M alert to identify if their product is affected and complete the claim form to request redress: https://www.3m.co.uk/3M/en_GB/worker-health-safety-uk/news-events/full-story/~/sealed-blok-recall/?storyid=49597a1a-2b98-480f-b0f5-7c4b43ed067f
